The Governor’s Workforce Development Council (WDC) has released its summary report with recommendations on how to address the workforce shortage in our state. In the report, the WDC names the technical skills gap as the number one challenge and calls for a structured connection between industry and education to address this issue.
The council recommends that Career and Technical Education programming be expanded to align with industry needs, including information technology and cyber skills. The WDC supports the implementation of computer and cuber sciences standards for the PK-12 system. The report also recommends that the current Operation Intern be remodeled to create the “Main Street Internship” by partnering education and industry through work-based learning opportunities including IT and cyber security.
TechND will continue to monitor and and provide input into tech-related initiatives within the report.
